How to Journal on Emotionally Numb Days

A way to keep journaling when you feel flat, blank, or disconnected.

Feeling nothing is still a state worth recording. On numb days, the goal is not clarity. The goal is continuity.

1. Write the state, not the emotion

Use words like blank, flat, heavy, distant, or foggy without forcing a stronger label.

2. Track energy and pace

Low energy, slow thoughts, or avoiding conversation often tell you more than abstract emotion words.

3. Leave one open question

Do not force insight. End with one question to revisit tomorrow.

Prompts to try now

  • What state felt closest to today?
  • What happened to my energy and pace?
  • What question should I revisit tomorrow?
